There are different types of oil skimmers
used for different applications:
Belt Type Oil Skimmer
- These are mainly used where recovery of fluid is important.
- This is mounted vertically in the tank.
- The belt is running vertically between two shafts.
- Oil sticks to the belt & is scraped out when it comes above
the tank.

Tube Type Oil Skimmer
- These are mainly used to remove oil from big tanks.
- Tube floats on the surface of the fluid & oil sticks to the
tube.
- Tube rotates continuously with the help of geared drive.
- Oil is continuously scraped out.

Hydro Cyclone Type Oil
Skimmers
- It's nothing but a pump.
- It handles very high volumes of oil.
- Some fluid goes out along with the scum.

Pan Type Oil Skimmers
- It is nothing but a bucket elevator.
- Buckets are tied between the chain & rotating continuously
with the help of geared drive.
- The oil is collected in buckets & conveyed to the collecting
bin.
- These buckets are made of perforated steel & covered with
fine mesh to retain oil & recover fluid.

Disc Type Skimmer
- A stainless steel disc is rotated continuously with the help of
geared drive.
- Oil sticks to the disc & scraped continuously.
- This could be used for small tanks.
- Dry zone above fluid level should not be more thatn 200mm.
